WHO’S NEW IN CAPENGLISH

MATTHEW SWIFT, Recruitment Officer

« One of CapEnglish’s greatest strengths comes from our fantastic team of hard-working, committed teachers. Our teaching team is one of many vital cogs to the ongoing functioning of CapEnglish, as they are on the front lines, passing on their experience and knowledge to thousands of impressionable young people across the entirety of France. Of course, as a result of this, these teachers need to be found, interviewed and given teaching proposals for the academic year. This is where I come in.

As the recruitment officer for CapEnglish I am often the first person a prospective candidate speaks to when applying for CapEnglish. I establish our needs in specific areas, vet the CVs that come in from hopeful applicants and then subsequently interview interesting candidates with an open mind and a cheerful smile. I then offer successful candidates the positions that we have available, fitting our needs with the availabilities of our future teachers.

Regarding my background – I grew up in the UK, in northwest England before moving around the UK to pursue study and work opportunities. I completed my undergraduate degree in Durham, trained as a teacher in Bristol and worked across schools in Oxford and Bristol for several years. Within these roles I primarily taught geography, drama and sport in secondary schools and took on responsibility for recruiting new teachers and staff within our department. In 2016 I decided to retrain as an ESL teacher and move to Perpignan, France. I worked for three years as a maternelle and primary school teacher within the private sector, so I have experience ‘on the ground’ and know how it is to teach. I then worked freelance for the following three years, working in different schools and teaching privately prior to starting my new role with CapEnglish as the Recruitment Officer in May 2022. I like to apply my own teaching background and experience during the interview process, as I understand the wonderful yet challenging position of teaching young children English.

My primary objective – Find great teachers and be a fantastic first impression of CapEnglish for our candidates! »
